Post-baccalaureate Pre-health Programs (Postbacs) (AHP-SF120)

What are Postbacs and who are they for? 

Postbaccalaureate programs begin after an undergraduate degree and are designed to support the transition to professional school. These programs include undergraduate coursework, graduate work, certificate programs, and degree programs. The landscape of Postbac programs is expanding and changing. It consists of various learning modalities (online, in person, hybrid) and may include a variety of other programming (test prep, research, or clinical work). This course is designed to inform advisors of the available Postbac programs, the terminology used by Postbac, and how to advise their students regarding Postbac programs and program fit.

Learning Objectives:

Learners/Advisors will be able to:

• Direct advisees to 3 databases for researching Postbac programs
• Describe the difference between a Career Changer & Academic Enhancer Program
• Explain the benefits of both Undergraduate & Graduate Postbac Opportunities, and how they impact professional school application services’ GPA calculations.
• Converse with students about the numerous considerations that go into selecting a program that best fits their needs & professional goals.
• Inventory the many types of pipeline agreements between programs & professional schools
• Have a greater understanding of the different types of programs and how to find the right fit.
